New York Focus is an independent newsroom covering New York state and local politics. We report on Governor Cuomo, the rising left flank of the Democratic party, and issues affecting working New Yorkers, with beats on housing and homeless, energy and climate, incarceration and justice, labor and immigration, tax and budget. Our work will fall into three main categories:

• Investigations of New York’s politicians and power brokers
• Explainers of under-examined bills and arcane legislative processes
• Features documenting popular movements

A ‘Perspectives’ section will feature analysis and opinion-driven pieces whose experiences shape their insights into urgent concerns for New Yorkers.
